Abandoned lands in marginal Mediterranean mid-mountain areas are managed in different ways: (i) passive management (shrubland revegetation that remains for decades); (ii) active revegetation (afforestation with conifers with and without thinning practices); and (iii) grazing with extensive livestock with support of shrub clearing practices in selected areas.
